TAMPA — In the first six games of the season, the Washington Capitals put the puck in the net with relative ease. That scoring ability propelled them to a five-game winning streak after a loss in the season opener, but Coach Spencer Carbery cautioned Friday that the free-flowing offense wouldn’t last forever.

The Lightning held the Capitals (5-2-0, 10 points, third in the Metro) to just four 5-on-5 shots on goal in the period, consistently taking away passing lanes after Washington outshot the Lightning 17-8 in a bend-but-don’t-break second period for Tampa Bay.

Rookie Conor Geekie scored his first NHL goal and Andrei Vasilevskiy posted a 31-save shutout as the Tampa Bay Lightning claimed a 3-0 win over the Washington Capitals at AMALIE Arena on Saturday. Geekie’s goal came on a one-timer from the left circle in the third period and was scored 44 seconds after Brayden Point scored to make it 2-0.
