According to the Office of Governor Greg Abbott, the decreases come after five straight years of increases, which saw fentanyl-related poisoning deaths in Texas rise over 600% from 2019 to 2023, taking the lives of more than 7,000 innocent Texans in just four years.

Governor Greg Abbott touted new data by the Texas Department of State Health Services on Wednesday, showing a nearly 20 percent decrease in fentanyl-related poisoning deaths over the past year. The new data showed at least 430 fewer Texans died due to fentaynl-related poisoning deaths in the last 12 months,

The 1,925 fentanyl-related Texas deaths over the past year were a decline of 438. Gov. Greg Abbott credited the "One Pill Kills" campaign and other efforts.
